Andrew Robertson v Benjamin Mendy

Andrew Robertson

Andrew Robertson       Trumps
Crossing 7
Has a lovely shape to his crosses, but they are very rarely aimed at players, just at a space in the box. He really needs to work on picking out an attacker.
Workrate 10
He never stops running, works his backside off and that is why he has become such a fan favourite.
Defending 7
Never stops a cross, can get caught chasing back, but gives his all to close players down and put them under pressure and is a decent tackler. Needs to learn to stop crosses coming in though, that is a major weakness for a full-back to be unable to close out a cross.
Pace 8
Good pace to get up and down the flank and ensure he is very rarely beaten for pace.
Build Up Play 8
Is really improving on his involvement in the build up play and becoming a very important player in approach play. Particularly on a fast break, he is often able to be an out ball.

Benjamin Mendy

Benjamin Mendy       Trumps
Crossing 8
Does not really cross so much as fire in a pass from wide areas. Much more suited to the type of players Man City have up front than a cross would be.
Workrate 9
Gets up and down well and covers a lot of ground.
Defending 5
He really struggles to defend, never blocks crosses and struggles badly against anyone who is not markedly slower and weaker than him. His tackling is not that good and his positioning is poor. Luckily he very rarely has to do any defending.
Pace 8
Looks to have lost a touch of pace while injured. Was blisteringly quick but now is just merely very quick (merely!). Whether that will come back in time or not is hard to say, but it is noticeable.
Build Up Play 9
Has a lovely touch and gets very involved in the build up, using his excellent timed runs to get on the end of passes.
