Marcos Alonso v Marcelo

Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso       Trumps
Crossing 9
An excellent left footed delivery of a ball, if only he would spend more time on the flank to deliver those crosses.
Defending 6
He is not the worst defender, but he lacks pace and so often gets caught out of position and does not get tight enough to stop a cross when he is back.
Heading 8
Very good in the air, which has helped him notch a large percentage of his goals.
Pace 5
Slow for a full-back, which opponents will often exploit.
Attacking 8
Seems to spend most of a match thinking he is a centre-forward, which limits his effectiveness and reduces the width his team can use. Otherwise he would get a much higher mark on this as he is a very effective attacking full-back when he maintains width.

v

Marcelo

Marcelo       Trumps
Crossing 7
Not a bad crosser of the ball but it is not an outstanding feature of his game.
Defending 5
It is a real weakness to his game, he is wholly reliant on his pace in the defensive third and will often be caught out of position to add to his inability to do the defensive basics correctly.
Heading 5
He lacks height, which hampers him badly in the air if a target man pulls out wide.
Pace 8
Extremely quick, which enables him to mainly cover up deficiencies in his game.
Attacking 9
One of the best full-backs in recent years in terms of his effectiveness going forward. It is the key to him being at a top team rather than a lower-league side, where his defensive work belongs.
