He had an incredible presence and aura about him that put many forwards off and stopped a goal being scored before the ball even left a striker's foot.

He was one of the best one on one keepers, only Robbie Fowler seemed to be able to beat him regularly, simply by keeping it low and between his legs. Most other forwards would panic and smack it straight at Schmeichel.

He was a decent kicker but it was his throws that were a real weapon.

An excellent shot stopper, who was big and agile with it.

Did something that most modern day keepers do not do, he caught the ball with regularity and confidence.

Dominated and commanded his box in large part with his presence.

Always strong in one on ones, you could rely on him to make it difficult for any striker to get past him.

Never really had to be that good with his feet as he could just pick the ball up whenever it was passed back to him.

His footwork and positioning were among the best of all time, enabling him to be in place to get to most shots. Added to that, he was intelligent and focused, so it was very rare he could be caught off guard.

Could pluck a ball out of midair no matter what speed it was travelling and under immense amounts of pressure. Very rarely did he miss or drop a catch. It is a skill that sadly seems to have vanished from the game.
